MEET THE FOUNDERS

The Citizenry was inspired by our never-ending sense of wanderlust and mutual desire to make a positive impact.

We met as college freshmen over a decade ago, quickly becoming close friends. Carly’s creative personality was the perfect complement to Rachel’s all-business attitude – and we discovered study sessions, founding organizations, and traveling the globe were all exponentially better if we were on the same team.

Years later, when decorating our first homes, we both found ourselves overstuffing our suitcases with beautifully crafted home goods discovered on our travels. Continually frustrated by the mass-produced rubbish offered at traditional retailers, we set out to transform modern home goods with The Citizenry.

Carly Nance

Carly jumped into The Citizenry with the dream of creating a lifestyle brand that empowers artisans around the globe.

She spent the last six years in brand planning and global marketing strategy, helping leading brands connect with their consumers in a more meaningful way. This career took her all over the world – and during those travels, she was inspired by international design and the stories of the people behind the products she purchased abroad.

Carly earned her Masters of Integrated Marketing Communications from Northwestern University and her Bachelors in Marketing from Texas A&M University.

Rachel Bentley

After years in strategy consulting, Rachel wanted to establish a business that would make an undeniably positive impact on the world.

While at Bain & Company, she spent time in the private equity, healthcare, and retail practices before finding her calling: helping companies launch and redesign consumer products. From there she partnered with a few industry-disrupting startups and began searching for opportunities to combine extraordinary products with positive social impact.

Rachel earned her MBA from Columbia Business School, her Masters in Financial Management, and Bachelors in Accounting from Texas A&M University.
