A blend of function and beauty, these floor baskets are part works of art and part multi-tasker. Each one is made from elephant grass that’s native to Ghana, and the size alone makes it incredibly luxurious. Stash blankets, toys, books inside – anything to help create a sense of calm and order in your home.
Handwoven by a cooperative of artisans in the remote region of Bolgatanga, Ghana, each basket undergoes a meticulous 8-step process that takes up to a day to complete. Exclusively made in a fair trade working environment.

These baskets made me develop a basket problem. I use them to store my dog’s toys, my 100+ record collection, laundry, and blankets next to my couch. They are sturdy, beautifully made, and the perfect shade of yellow/natural that has warmth without looking fake. I did have an issue with one basket which looked like it was unraveling in some areas, but the Citzenry customer support team helped me address it right away. I’m a big fan of these baskets and this company. There are so many options for buying designer home goods, but this is the place I can know I’ll get great service, beautiful products, and be putting my money in the hands of global artisans who deserve it.

Rough weave
I was disappointed to find the basket is much more orange in tone than shown in the photos. The weave is very rough. There are dozens of points sticking out of the basket from top to bottom, all the way around. These are like sharp little sticks pointing out of the weave. I wouldn't dare store a blanket in this basket. The Citizenry imposes a $25 restocking fee to take back an item that is not as advertised. All in, a disappointing experience this time. I own 5 other baskets from the Citizenry, and the others were great.
