Fall Gatherings image

Temps are (finally!) dropping, and the season of holiday gatherings is officially here. There's something so special about these get-togethers – slowing down to share a meal with the friends, stopping to reflect on the good.

But, there's a lot of thought that goes into making a gathering warm, intentional, yet effortless. To break it down for us, we've teamed up with entertaining expert, Megan Gilger of The Fresh Exchange, who's sharing her advice on setting the stage for the perfect fall dinner party.

With that, we'll let Megan take it from here...

1 //  BRINGING THE OUTDOORS IN

This time of year, finding fresh flowers locally can be pricey and unnecessary. Embrace the season by heading outside on a hike or in your backyard and gather up the beautiful textures nature gives us this time of year. Sticks and dried hydrangeas to dried lavender and grape vines – even branches with turning leaves. Have fun placing them in tall vases to draw your eye over the table.

2 // COZY UP

The chill is in the air, so as guests arrive, make sure they will feel your home is a comfortable and warm place for them to spend a dinner. Toss furs and blankets on your chairs and seats to make it extra cozy.

3 // DIM THE LIGHTS

Don’t try to counter the darker days with light. Embrace it. Low light creates a sense of intimacy and connection for dinner gatherings. During this time year, we stick to fire light, natural light, and lower light. It draws your guests closer and creates a sense and feeling of warmth.

4 // PICK A SEASONAL PALETTE

Warm and earthy tones mixed with neutrals will create an inviting and beautiful palette for your holiday table. Don’t feel like you need anything too fancy. Take cues from the world outside. A terra-cotta vase with foraged decor will be a beautiful focal point. Using napkins that are neutral and vary in pattern or texture will bring a designed element to the table. All simple ways to bring the season to the table without too much work.

5 // KEEP THINGS PERSONAL

I love adding a handmade element to any table whether it be a napkin ring such as these tied leather strips or a knitted blanket hanging over a chair. A small detail that can create great conversation and thought around the table is always a great way to kick off a dinner party.

And there you have it, folks! With just a few simple tips, you can create a warm, welcoming table for your guests this holiday season. We hope your holidays are filled with lots of time gathered around the table with the ones you love.
