The Oaxaca Botanical Garden image

It’s no secret that we have a thing for succulents. Cactus. Agave. Air plants. We show no discrimination here. We love them all. So you can imagine our excitement when we found ourselves surrounded by over 900 different types of succulents. Yes, you heard right – 900.

Where can you find this nirvana, you ask? Right in the heart of the capital city of Oaxaca sits the Jardín Ethnobotánico with over five acres of studly succulents. Designed by Oaxacan artist Francisco Toledo, this garden is a masterpiece that showcases the rich variety of shapes, colors, and textures found in the native plants of Oaxaca, the most bio-diverse region in Mexico.

As we wandered through the mazes of organ pipe cactus and courtyards of fat-leaf agaves, we couldn’t help but feel a sense of awe and wonder for the sheer beauty of these plants. It was pretty magical.

This place definitely deserves a place of honor on your Oaxaca trip itinerary. And if our word isn’t good enough, we brought back pictures to put you over the edge. From here on out, we’ll let them do the talking…
